Does blood in the eye indicate a disease or is it more common to be mechanical. I have two spawning female and the common is a male. He has been chasing the girls really hard and has visible dorsal fin damage.

I have separated him from his pond mates and is now in a 10 gallon quarantine tank.

One of the females also has a few scales that have been rubbed off but otherwise all looks well.

I have a moor that sustained trauma to the eye - it's now filled with blood but improving daily. So yes, it can and usually is mechanical. It's when they turn cloudy that it's best to look at water quality/illness :)
