Regular Member pm94 Posted December 5, 2003 Regular Member Share Posted December 5, 2003 Is it recommended to quarantine them before introducing them to your goldies? And, will salt harm them like it does to slugs--makes them melt/dissolve into goo.
Regular Member jsrtist Posted December 7, 2003 Regular Member Share Posted December 7, 2003 Some levels of aquarium salt are safe for them but Im not sure how much and I never wanted to take that chance! Just to be safe I'd recommend quarantining them because they can carry parasites. Also be very careful when medicating your fish. Any ich/parasite medicine or antibiotic can kill them. Guest Amanda
check info on applesnail.net I have not had a problem with using small amounts of salt in the tank as a tonic but I never put in as much as they call for. Also - I have used Melafix with my snail in the tank and have not had a problem - it says on the packaging that it's safe for snails and other invertebrates. Good luck!
