Guest ahmedhusseinak Posted June 8, 2010 (edited) I'm not sure whether Willy counted as a fry when I got him, but here goes: Photo from the first week after purchase sometime a year ago I think: Photo taken this afternoon: I think it's interesting that his tail has actually tucked from fairly flat to around 45 degrees over time...seems kind of backwards but then again I didn't expect to see such a big wen either. This is definitely the best of the lot. its one thing making a comet grow to the size of a whale, but its totally a different matter making a ranchu grow to its full potential..the latter is really difficult and need alot of effort, care and even expertise to a certain extent while the former is child's play. Hats off to Donya. Maybe u can shed some light on ur magnificent fish handling skills.... Edited June 8, 2010 by ahmedhusseinak

blackteles 99 Posted August 7, 2010 He looks exactly like my Patch did when I got her from Hawaii with her gold and black markings. Seven months later and she's almost all gold. Same thing happened with my black telescope Bojack, she's completely gold now within a year's time. Amazing how they can change... -Dennis

RanchuDressing 2,542 Posted August 10, 2010 My red and white ranchu, Cheddar, underwent quite a dramatic color change. He's totally white now! He went white within a four-week period about 6 months after I got him. BEFORE: AFTER: So he's now known as "White Cheddar," of course.
Captain Findus Goldfish 272 Posted August 10, 2010 RD where do you find these awesome ranchus? Do you buy them as 'babies' or already big and chubby?
RanchuDressing 2,542 Posted August 10, 2010 LOL! Thanks for the kind words, Federica. There's one LFS near me that sometimes gets small to mid-size ranchus -- in the 2.5 to 3-inch range. Cheddar and Salem are both from that store. I found the late great chunk at another LFS. All of them grew quite a bit once I had them in the big tank and fed them lots of yummy food. I might take the plunge and purchase a ranchu or two online soon, though, because I'm in the market for new fish and the stores near me have just about nothing at the moment.

Locke 4 Posted August 27, 2010 Black Moor to Gold Telescope within a few months. His before picture was a bit after I got him too. He was completely black when I got him. I believe the change continues. He stalled for a few months, but it seems he still has a bit of an identity crisis. Looks like he decided he'd try on a white coat. At least it's looking that way. There's a white line on his dorsal. And the edges of his dorsal, his caudal, and his pelvic fins are turning whitish. And his belly is turning white. Although, it was always fairly light. And this one's just for kicks.

number20121 2,663 Posted September 11, 2010 I gotta say, all these fishies on here are so gorgeous!! Well, here a photo of my Sarasa and Shubunkin, the only ones where a before and after actually shows their development. This photo was taken roughly 14 months ago, a couple months after I got them: and this photo is from 2 months ago. I honestly never realized the changes until I compared the pictures. Both their tail fins got so long, and whenever the Shubunkin moves, the tail fin is shaped like a really big C. And it is longer than in this photo too (badly angled photo), I'd say it the tail makes about 45% of the length of the fish. Although I gotta say that unfortunately he is not as blue as in the second photo. Nice lighting effect I guess. The shade and intensity of blue is usually a mix these two photos. Unless the tank light is on for a while, for some reason that makes the blue and the black speckles fade almost 50% .....
