Regular Member mailboxck Posted January 6, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted January 6, 2006 Afraid that my hillstream loach ain't eating anything. What can I feed him? He's not interested in pellets, algea and I dont have snails.
Regular Member touchofsky Posted January 7, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted January 7, 2006 My hillstream loaches now eat ProGold pellets, but it took them a few months to realize that they are food. They now come out when I open the lid, and zoom around to find a pellet to eat. Very cute. Yours should catch on to the fact that goldfish pellets are good to eat, but make sure to feed sinking ones. In the meantime, you could try feeding blanched zucchini. Cut into wedges and microwave in a bit of water for a few minutes until soft. If it isn't cooked enough, it will float. I have also read that they like blanched kale, but I haven't tried that.
Regular Member mailboxck Posted January 8, 2006 Author Regular Member Share Posted January 8, 2006 Thanks for the info. The only problem is he's a bit too spooked and hides most of the day. I just hope he's eating.
Regular Member touchofsky Posted January 8, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted January 8, 2006 How long have you had him? Mine took several weeks to calm down. I have three in the tank and one was far more brave, the other two took longer to become more visible.
Regular Member VroomVroom Posted January 10, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted January 10, 2006 Hey Touch, Off the subject, I know, but thanks for the blanching in the microwave tip. Very useful to me.
Regular Member mailboxck Posted January 11, 2006 Author Regular Member Share Posted January 11, 2006 I've had him there for more than a week now and he's a bit more brave now. He's also a lot happier now when I put my ranchus in that tank and moved the ryukins that used to use that tank
