Regular Member Tanya_woz_ere Posted November 17, 2003 Regular Member Share Posted November 17, 2003 Hiya everyone. ~*~*~ Today i went to a specialist fish shop after school and brought a new tank. It came with a light, filter, gravel, food, net, stress coat and stress zyme ~*~*~ ~*~*~ I put my filter in and filled my tank with water. but me and my mum wanted to no whether you have to fill the tank right to the top and cover the filter with water. we was just worried about the wire but it seems to be all covered going into the filter. This is the first proper aqurium i have had ~*~*~ ~*~*~ Also when should a put the stress coat and stress zyme into the water? ~*~*~
Guest gldfshkpr
Usually with a HOB (hang on back) filter you want your water level a half an inch away from where the water falls out. Personally, the only water additive I use in my tanks is a tap water conditioner to eliminate chlorine and chloramines. Congrats on the new tank! Guest fkerm
Tanya: Congratulations! Good luck with your tank. What type of filter do you have? It sounds like a Hang on back (HOB) type. Can you post the brand name or model number? Did it come with instructions? I guess not because you still have questions.... Does the filter connect to an air punp? Did you get an air pump? Does the tank have a plastic edge around the top? Usually you can can fill right up to the plastic edge but safer not to fill above. You must be very exicited! Please reply and let us know how it is going.... Francis

Regular Member Nick Posted November 28, 2003 Regular Member Share Posted November 28, 2003 I was always wondering , whether the wire form the internal filter was allowed in.. though i thought it would be ok. Because when i looked at the small diagram.. it had it submerged to the bottom. I keep mine fairly close to the top though, because if they wanna have a bit of fun they go to the surface and swim against the current, or they can stay in the middle - bottom and swim around normally.
