Guest thegoodkelly
I am totally new beyond about 40 hours of research so I won't mind being contradicted. But, it depends on the breed of goldfish. Shubukin, Koi, and other large breeds will require a huge tank or pond. Comets, sometimes known as feeder fish, will need at least 10 gallons per inch of fish. Other breeds: 10 gallons per fish, if they are small you can get away with 10 gal. for the first fish and 5 gallons for each additional fish if you check the water very frequently and change it out accordingly. Regular Member JenW Posted October 24, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted October 24, 2005 If it's goldfish - try to stick to 10 gal per fish. I can certainly understand what you mean TGK - tho why not give them the 10 to start with. In the right environment, fish will grow quickly so they would soon grow out of 5gal each and would just become cramped. So rule of thumb - 10 gallons each. I would shy away from comets/koi etc unless you're thinking of getting a pond That's where they do best
Guest thegoodkelly
YAY! I'm not a TOTAL idiot! What Jen said, 10 gal. per fish, is the standard I chose to follow for my Ryukin, jono. But, make sure you know what breed you have.
