Regular Member Sandman Posted October 19, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted October 19, 2005 Two questions: Can I treat a tank with Melafix without harming the my brigs? What is the max salt dosage a brig can safely tolerate? Thanks.
Guest Chishower
I would remove the snails if your using melafix, they usually dont tolerate meds very well, also, I have used up to .2% salt in emergencies, but the snails didnt like it, you should remove them for salting as well. Regular Member Donya Posted October 19, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted October 19, 2005 Melafix is actually snail safe (so is Pimafix technically but stay away from that stuff since it has the same active ingredient as Melafix and is just stronger), but salt is not. Other fish meds are not necessarily snail safe. Melafix is an exception. Some people keep snails in very low salt concentrations, but they are so low it might as well not even exist as far as the effect on the fish's health and everything is concerned. If you're going to salt a tank, take the snails out.
