De-coloring Oranda

I was reading Goldfish Guide by Matsui & Axelrod and found a picture that looks something like one of my fish. On page 162 a photo is labeled "English Broadtail Oranda."

I have had this fish for 9-10 months. He was small and all black when I bought him. He has started "de-coloring." He is now mostly gold with black fins.

So, my question is: Is there a web page that gives information for determing the types of goldfish?

It doesn't really matter what type of Oranda he is. I would just like to know more about the fish I have.

I think you can see my photos at yahoo at the following link:

whoa what nice fishies u got!! :heart

I think i can identify ur fishies:

- Angel is a calico ryukin (and what a uniquely coloured calico!)

- New is a calico fantail

- The King is a calico oranda

- The twins are also calico oranda

- Bulldog is a normal orange oranda whose black is in the process of disappearing

This site should help a bit in identifying differnt kinds of godlfish:

How far will the color change go?

Will he retain black fins?

I saw the thread on Kokos Fiona? Was that the final change?

I also skimmed the changing color subject heading for the list.

Re: food influencing color change. I rotate Hikari Lionhead food, fro. brine scrimp, and fro. peas. None of the Calicos seem to have changed much. Any experience?

And on another subject, do goldfish suck up gravel to help chew/digest food, like chickens?

I think the brine shrimp & hikari lionhead will intensify the colour a bit.

And no, goldfish does not suck up gravel to chew their food :D is u see ur goldfish got a grael stuck in its mouth, watch it closely  u might waanna resort to tweezers if its struggling to get it out

Yep chances are he will lose all the black. I had an orange and black oranda, she was gorgeous. She is now all orange. Still gorgeous but very different from the fish she was. It is very frustrating but you learn to love them for who they are.

Big Boy before & after. I picked him out because I liked all the black markings. But they ALL went away! :crp

But he is ALWAYS the star of my tank!!! :heart
