Regular Member PaNdeM0niuM Posted October 16, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted October 16, 2005 I have 1 dwarf flame gourami in a 20 gallon with cories and danios. The problem is that my gourami spends most of the time hiding behind plants. And he doesn't seem to eat (to be honest i don't think I have seen him eat) Question: Will buying another gourami help my gourami feel less stressed and encourage him to come out more (and eat !! ) also, do I have to buy the 'same species' of gourami. Can I get another species instead of dwarf
Regular Member Kissy Posted October 16, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted October 16, 2005 How long have you had him? Does he have enough hiding places? I think getting him a friend would be a good idea if you've got room, as I've heard they do best in pairs. Make sure you get a male/female pair, or at least a female/female pair. Males don't do well together in general.
Guest Stuart
As above Gouramis have a lot of surface cover in their natural environment - having plenty of hiding places will help him feel more relaxed. Maybe some floating plants like water lettuce or salvia if you have enough clear room above the surface.
Regular Member gumbo Posted October 21, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted October 21, 2005 Yeah, I think most gouramis are pretty shy and like hiding. Mine is always hiding behind a rock. He probably is eating, just not when you are there or the pieces that fall to him. My gouramis gets especially nervous when I am looking into the tank.
