Regular Member Anic Posted September 6, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted September 6, 2005 Both are really high in both of my tanks and I don't know how to lower Ph or nitrite (maybe it's nitrate?) I can't remember which one. It doesn't really seem to be affecting the fish, but I want to lower it before it does.
Regular Member Kissy Posted September 7, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted September 7, 2005 Is your tank cycled? If it is, there shouldn't be any nitrites in there. Nitrates however, are normal, and a weekly 30% water change keeps them in normal levels. Nitrites are harmful, Nitrates are not (unless they are really high). Don't worry about pH, goldies do fine with high pH's. pH downs (acid) do more harm than good and aren't worth it. My pH is 7.9-8.2 and it doesn't bother any of my fish (not even the tetras). Regular Member magickzzl Posted September 7, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted September 7, 2005 if the PH isnt increadible high, i bet the fish will adjust just fine to it. but if your REALLY worried, drftwood will bring it down. as for the other, try doing a small water change
Regular Member Anic Posted September 7, 2005 Author Regular Member Share Posted September 7, 2005 Well, my 10 gal has been cycled for months and the 29 gal has been cycled for about two months. The pH is 8.4 which is a s high as the strip goes. I'll do a water change.
