I'm not sure which is right. I always thought you measure from tip if their mouth to the beginning if the tail....thus EXCLUDING the length of tailfin. Is that correct?? :blink:

Well, that's the way I measure them because tail length varies between fish. Some fish have tails as long as their bodies, others are shorter. I believe this is referred to as 'standard measurement'.

Nevertheless, when stating measurements I always qualify 'without tail' because it seems the majority of people do measure from tip of the nose to tip of the tail.

Yeap i myself are starting to include "with tail" ot "body only" when mentioning the length of my fish. personally like to measure "body only" as it decreases the possibility of misunderstanding :)
