Purple Splotches In Tank

I have noticed purple splotches developing and getting larger on some of my aquarium stones and ornaments. The largest spots are about .25 inches in diameter. Could these be areas of beneficial bacteria colonies? Or is this something I should worry about and possibly try to clean? It really looks like bacteria colonies that one might grow in a biology class. I also have small hazy white spots on my aquarium glass (first signs of alge?). Can you usually see the bacteria in this way?

I am in the process of cycling my tank, right now I have higher nitrites and no ammonia, with trace amounts of nitrates.

Thanks, any advice would be helpful.

My gut instinct is that it is either algae or bacteria. Are these items made to be put in water?

I would take them out and clean them with boiling water - this will kill most bacteria, if that is what it is.

How long have they been in the tank? Are there fish in there yet? If so, how are they acting?
