Regular Member fishies724 Posted July 24, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted July 24, 2005 my tank is currently cycling and i was wondering if it would be ok to change cartridges but i am unsure because i know that the bacteria are catching in the current cartridge
Regular Member fisharenewtome Posted July 25, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted July 25, 2005 Why do you think you need to change the cartridge? I wouldn't worry about the directions on the box telling you to do it at a specific time. I use my filter media for a long while - simply rinsing it out in a bucket of old tank water. Can you give us some more info??
Regular Member fishies724 Posted July 25, 2005 Author Regular Member Share Posted July 25, 2005 well the filtered water is not coming out like a waterfall i guess i should say, it is now coming out in places before it has been filtered, hope this makes sense
Regular Member fisharenewtome Posted July 25, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted July 25, 2005 OK I need more info about your tank. What kind of filter do you have & do you have plants in your tank?

Regular Member fisharenewtome Posted July 25, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted July 25, 2005 OK - I asked about the plants 'cause they tend to have more waste. Does the filter media appear dark? (I am assuming that you have the floss in the outer bost cartridge spot) If it does I would try to vigorously rinse the cartridge out in old tank water (If your tank is too small to have enough waste water - just use dechlor water you don't want to use tap water as untreated tap water will kill off your bio bugs) I'm thinking that perhaps your media are just too full of gunk & that the water is looking for the pasth of least resistance. If something else is going on - post back with more details or a pic
