Regular Member Fishmerised Posted July 21, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted July 21, 2005 I always have my tanks salted at .1%, as a general tonic for the fish. This practice is not accepted by everyone though, some prefer to leave salting for treatment of illness only. I find that .1% assists with torn fins and minor wounds, I have used .3% to treat ich a couple of times with success.
Regular Member Slugger Posted July 21, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted July 21, 2005 I find it's good for kicking out infections before they get a firm foothold and recently have used it to effectively treat parasites. I only salt when necessary and have never used other meds. My moor and oranda are a bit sensitive to salt, when I used a 0.3% solution, they floated odd. Apart from floating, I've had no other issues with fish health. However, I do have issues on maintenance, because I can't stand the crud that's left behind after water evaporates (precipitate?). All in all, salt is Slugger
