Regular Member PaNdeM0niuM Posted July 19, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted July 19, 2005 if male bettas fight when together, they how do they survive in the wild (rice fields)?? :listen: :listen: :listen: :listen:
Regular Member Devs Posted July 19, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted July 19, 2005 Well,I'm certainly not an expert on Betta's,especially Betta's in the wild, but if you think about it almost all male species will fight when confronted. Lions have their own space,Bucks (male Deer),even Tom Cats, etc. Those Rice Paddies, from what I've seen, are vast areas.I guess what it probably comes down to ,is the Survival of the fittest. It keeps their population in control, all the weak/sick Betta's are exterminated.Really,it's no different from most animals/fish,etc. I guess. JMO...... Regular Member Florissa Posted July 19, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted July 19, 2005 I agree with what Devs said. It's like this: typically rodents are bad Mom's but somehow they were good enough to keep the population going. Some bird Mom's are bad too, but again, they keep it going somehow. That is how it is with the betta.
Regular Member touchofsky Posted July 19, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted July 19, 2005 I would imagine that they would have territories, too, and wouldn't venture too much into other's territories. Also, the "loser" of a fight would be able to get away, unlike in a tank situation.
Regular Member MaudlinBlithe Posted July 19, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted July 19, 2005 I read that male bettas will fight in the wild but not to the degree that the domesticated kind do.... this is because of the extra bold colors and longer flowing fins.
