Net Or No Net...

I have been reading that I should not move GN with a net becasue it will scrape off the slime coat... that makes sense, but doesn't that happen, too, if you would hold him in your hands?

I want to be able to move GN with my hands - on the rare occasion - but I feel nervous about doing it! Is there a proper way to do it?

Any tips appreciated! :thanks

I used to use my hands to move them. Now I use a small container to

transport from tank to tank. It gets filled with tank water and you scoop

up your fish to move. Much easier and not as watery on you. Then you

gently lift your fish out of the container and place in the new tank.

DUH! Why didn't I think of that?! (Fishmerized, I ran out of Java) :rofl

Thank you for thinking for me, PM94!

I guess that is what most people do? What happens when you have to pick them up, like if you have to get a rock out their mouth or treat with topical meds?

I moved my fishies with a jug(is that the right word?)that you could have lemonade in, but this one is just for the fish! They swam right into it and there were no difficulties! I didn't want Maxi to be exposed to the air so I didn't want to net him.

Hmmm this is a hard subjet (imo) Nets will take off some of the slime coat, and will stress them. Using your hands is really hard, especially if the fish

your trying to hold is a 7 inched fancy goldfish  So i agree

with paul, best way to go is with the container.

For times when you need to handle them for rock removal or applying

a topical ointment, I would use my hands. Mine are used to being held,

so it's no biggie for them. I try to have minimal finger contact with them

when they do need to be babied though.

I usually use those really soft nylon nets...almost like panty hose lol. I catch the fish with that and keep the net in a cup of water so they don't have to deal with the air. Sometimes I just skip the net tho...it really depends on why I'm catching them.
