Regular Member kflynt2004 Posted July 11, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted July 11, 2005 I may get a bigger tank, almost 3 x the size of my old.... old one is 14gallons. How am I going to cycle it? What if I put ALL the water from the old tank to the new? It will be like a huge water change, right? I will keep my old filter for the bacteria. Will this work?? Regular Member Florissa Posted July 11, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted July 11, 2005 How long has the 14 gallon been up and running? If you put all the gravel, water and decorations from the original tank into the new one, you will only have a small cycle to deal with. Depending on how long the 14 gal has been set up. Regular Member kflynt2004 Posted July 11, 2005 Author Regular Member Share Posted July 11, 2005 it's been set-up for about 6 months. its bare bottom. not many decorations. All bacteria on filter media (lots of it for 14g )
Regular Member fishrpets Posted July 12, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted July 12, 2005 When I upgraded and got my 75 gallon, I used the same + more gravel and the old filter media along with new. I used the old tank water too. I switched the fish right over that day and they did fine. Just check your levels.
