Guest Yami
A friend of mine is thinking about getting a betta, and her mom smokes. Does anyone know if the cigarette smoke would affect the betta, since they breathe air?
Regular Member TamtheLittleBlackMoor Posted July 3, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted July 3, 2005 He'll be fine so long as the house has a window cracked to let air flow carry the smoke out and let fresh air in. Nothing to worry about here except if any ashes fall in the tank, have your friend ask their mom not to smoke around the tank and there shouldn't be anything to worry about. Regular Member Kissy Posted July 3, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted July 3, 2005 The fumes could get in the water of any fish tank, especially if there is an air pump. It would be okay as long as there is now smoking in that room
Guest Chishower
Wow, I had never thought of the risks of smoking around tanks. I guess it makes perfect sense, if you can kill a fish by spraying hairspray around it you might be able to kill it by smoking. *hangs a no-smoking sign on the door*

Regular Member Florissa Posted July 4, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted July 4, 2005 It doesn't really matter if no one smokes in the room the tank is in, smoke travels and the tank will still feel the effects of smoke.
