I want to put some large rocks in my new tank but the rocks at my pet store are ridiculously expensive. Is it ok to get rocks from, let's say a lake or river, and place them in the tank?

yes, but you have to clean them well in plain water and test if theyre acidic or not...I dont know the test right off hand, I was actually just gonna ask someone to post it!

I went to home depot looking for a big bag of river rocks near the end of winter. The man told me they didn't have any.. because they were "seasonal." I didn't know rocks only grew in the summer. Either that or they're hibernating.
