Regular Member ryukingirl793 Posted March 31, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted March 31, 2005 I slept over at a friend's house yesterday and when I came home I found my black moor Richie chasing Phoenix, my red ryukin. My mom said he's been doing that all morning. Richie also has breeding stars to prove it. They are both only about 2 inches long. Will anything come of it? Regular Member ryukingirl793 Posted March 31, 2005 Author Regular Member Share Posted March 31, 2005 Also, Richie seems like he's really rough. He's running my ryukin into plants, and it looks like she might be getting hurt. Should I intervene?
Regular Member ryukingirl793 Posted March 31, 2005 Author Regular Member Share Posted March 31, 2005 Phoenix doesn't look like she even has any eggs. I'm probably going to net Richie to try and make him stop. He won't even let her eat!

Regular Member OldHag Posted March 31, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted March 31, 2005 Hi. I can only share my experiences. My fish spawn every 3 weeks. I have one female and two males and sometimes it can be rough. My female has been beaten up but nothing serious. She hides behind the pump when she gets tired. Sometimes I've seen the egg flowing around, but not always. The first time they spawned I picked her up 'cause I got scared, but they have to finish the spawning. They are usually going on from morning til noon.

Regular Member lcwinne Posted April 1, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted April 1, 2005 I don't have any experience with spawning but I would say that if your ryukin doesn't seem to have any eggs then I would separate them to give her a rest. You could use a breeders net to put one of them in or if you can use a tank divider put that in. This way she can recoupe to eat and rest a bit. Then put them back together after a short time and when she seems "ready for the chase"
Guest elge8
My fish spawned about 10 days ago, I bought a male who I knew was ready for spawning and he instantly started chasing my female who wasn't ready, you could try seperating them and heating up her water and feeding high protien food to her, it worked for me, when they were reunited he left her alone til she was ready and then the fun started, I've got at least 150 fry now! GOOD LUCK
