0.3 And Holding

I set up my tank on Sept. 25th.

On the 30th nitrites appeared. Up until two days ago they have held on at 0.1, I've been doing 10% water changes with the occasional 25-30% change thrown in.

So for the last two days I've had nitrite readings at 0.3. Both days I did a 25% water change. Do you think this is my nitrite spike, or will they rise higher?

My nitrates are above 5 but under 10, so I guessed and said 7. ;o)

Test the water out of the tap, it might be in the tap water.

If not I would let your water change go one more day than normal, check the levels of nitrites to make sure there okay and not rising. Then do a 30% water change with out doing a gravel siphon. then the next day do a nitrite and nitrate check :)

Just to give your fishies a little help, you can add some salt into the water to ease the effects that nitrite has on the gills. 1 tbsp per 5 gl water brings it up to 0.1%. Use rock salt, aquarium salt or solar salt, not iodized salt...

Good luck!
