Regular Member ryukingirl793 Posted February 24, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted February 24, 2005 Oh, it's okay, it's okay! I know you feel bad, and I'm not going to try to give you that " they're in a better place" cliche because I'm sure they were very happy with you. But i know your goldies don't blame you, and they are really in a good place now. I'm sure they loved you as much as you loved them. I hope i have been of some help. I'm so sorry. Guest sross19
I am so sorry about what happened to your fish. I understand how scary and sad it can be and ALL of my friends think I am crazy when I talk about being sad if my fish are ill. You clearly are a very caring person who did the best possible job to keep your fish healthy and happy. I do not think your fish experienced pain. Please know that you are not a bad person for what happened and all of us have gone through scary times where we feel like we have caused our fish harm. I think they were better off with you, living a happy life, than to be feeders in some pet store or living in a short life in a small fishbowl somwhere. You will always remember them; but will make a great human pet of more fish some day.
Regular Member Fire_Wolf Posted February 24, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted February 24, 2005 So Sorry to read this! Lets think this through and learn a bit though... What was the ph before? How fast did you raise it? You see, ph for goldies should be 7.5 up, however...... raising a ph or anything else, should be done slowly and controlled over several day's. Otherwise its a shock to there systems. Also, the ph up and down chems are not going to be trustworthy either. There's better methods to raising ph and adding the calcium and magnesium they need! Regular Member captk Posted February 24, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted February 24, 2005 I'm so sorry that you lost your fish. They must be really special. Please don't be too hard on yourself. It was an accident. We have all lost fish before. It is all part of fish keeping. I know you are very upset at the moment but can you tell us what you actually did to the water? It might not even be your fault or it is something other than the pH change. It is a hard lesson but one that you should be clear on so that there is no chance of repeating it. Regular Member jawlovesstewie Posted February 24, 2005 Author Regular Member Share Posted February 24, 2005 Well my house mate has set up a tropical tank and the fish looked bad and a lot died so I bought a ph test kit and tested em with my other test kit and found out the ph was off... then i tested my goldie tank and my fighter tank... well all were off... I 1stly changed the tropical tank and brought it back 2 around netral and the fish r happy now... well i thought my goldie tank should b netrual 2 so when I did my water change I added the amount on the instructions... a lid full... the lid is pretty small it said 2 just cover the bottom and i spose i coved it a tad more than just but its not like i tiped a heap in or nething... the problem is it doesnt say what size tank that it 4... im glad my fighters r ok Its going 2 b a sad night... my goldie tak is next 2 my bed and i watch my fish b4 i go 2 sleep... now i have an empty tank Its just hard 2 take on that 3 healthy fish who were happily swimming last night begging 4 food were dead this morning.... My flat mate was good though he burried em 4 me... he told me b4 the nice places he buried them near the flowers Pollock near the largest one cause he was the largest, garnet near the white flowers (he was a red cap orana) and pornchi (i not sure if that is how it is spelt he named her) was near the prettyest flower... now what a sweet guy is that huh Im lucky 2 live with him... im also lucky 2 have stewie who is going 2 buy me 3 more babies 4 my bday in 2 and half weeks... What should i do 2 my tank??? If i take out all the water and refill leaving fitler is that ok i mean it wasnt a disease
Regular Member captk Posted February 24, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted February 24, 2005 I'm sorry to be a pain, JLS, but you haven't really told us anything. What do you mean the water is off? Too acidic or too akaline? What did you use to treat the tank (product name and brand)? What is the tank pH reading now (after the treatment)? As far as I can tell, what you have done might have little to do with the deaths. A slightly over filled cap is hardly going to impact on the reading by a huge margine unless your dosage is completely wrong. Please be more specific. We want to know how and why so that it is not repeated again.
Regular Member jawlovesstewie Posted February 24, 2005 Author Regular Member Share Posted February 24, 2005 It showed up blue which told me it was way 2 alcaline... i added the stuff that came with the kit that was 2 make it more acidic... the reading was about nerual but i not sure what it is now and i sure dead fish would have thrown it off neway
