What Does Carbon Do

Recommended Posts

I would like to know what the carbon in my bio wheel filter does for the water. Does it do something to regualte the PH? amonia? hardness? I would appreciate any information because I would like to know how much is a desired amount for a GF tank with 2 small common, commet. I am running a fishless cycle and am planning to put my GF in the 40 gal in a few weeks. Thank you.

Carbon pretty much takes out the smell of the goldfish water. it can help in the biological filter part but mostly its for the smell....It also helps take out meds when you are done treating the tank.

Its like a sponge it just absorbs things out of the tank :D

It takes out the smell and medications from water. This is also the reason why carbon is used to filter drinking water. But it does get used up. You have to throw it out after a few weeks of use.
