HELP! I have no idea what this is or how to treat it (and I'm sure it's my fault)...My red cap oranda has a red raised spot on his tail. The fin has disintegrated around around the spot. I don't think it is fin rot because it's not really frayed, but I have no idea what else it could be. All of the params are fine = ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 20 ppm, pH 7.2. I am changing 50% once a week. He is alone in a 30 gallon with a bare bottom. 1 T salt/5 gallons. I fed medi-gold for 10 days, but he didn't seem to get any better, although he also didn't seem to get any worse. he's now back on the pro-gold and eating like a pig. Does anyone have any ideas? His fins seem very susceptible to problems in general so I've nursed him through quite a few episodes of this and that, but this is something I've never seen. I will try to post a photo tomorrow...
