Regular Member Tucker Posted October 17, 2021 Regular Member Share Posted October 17, 2021 Seems many feel solar salt without additives (99.6% pure) is just fine. But then I heard someone saying solar salt may remove magnesium and other beneficial elements. They felt buying the more expensive pond salt was important. Does anyone know the percent purity of pond salt? Is it 100% pure? 99.5% pure? And if not pure what is in the difference? I could not find a statement on any pond salt.
Regular Member hannah Posted October 17, 2021 Regular Member Share Posted October 17, 2021 I can’t comment on exact the purity differences but no the salt will not remove magnesium or anything else. The solar salt is cheaper and “purer” and will do the same thing just make sure there’s no anti-caking agents.
Regular Member Tucker Posted October 17, 2021 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 17, 2021 That seems to be the consensus. Seems most pond suppliers also use solar salt. I just confirmed Diamond Crystals Solar Natural Salt Crystals from Home Depot are sodium chloride based (99.6% pure). Thank you!
Helper Arctic Mama Posted October 17, 2021 Helper Share Posted October 17, 2021 Yeah I always just get pickling or rock salt because it’s straightforward. Keep it simple, right?
