API drops Water temperature? 72 degrees Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 30 gallons, been running for 6 months What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Topfin silenstream 30-40 gallons How often do you change the water and how much? Every two weeks, 50% How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? I've put the fish in a quarantine tank, 10 gallon, and I change the water 50% twice daily How many fish in the tank and their size? Only 1 plain goldfish, about 6 inches in length, 5 years old What kind of water additives or conditioners? I use Seachem Prime and Tetra EasyBalance with each water change What do you feed your fish and how often? New Life Spectrum pellets, a small pinch in the morning and a small pinch in the evening. However, since in the quarantine tank (two days) have been feeding only peas (approx. 2 peas/day) Any new fish added to the tank? No Any medications added to the tank? Just a bit of aquarium salt added to the quarantine tank, which she's been in for 2 days now. List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment.- I've never added anything to the main tank. Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? No Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Staying at the bottom, was eating up until today, but won't eat today. Slow breathing. Bloating. Not much moving around. Slight pine-coning and I think I detect a very slight bending (c-shape) but I could be wrong about that. I suspect that there may have been something not so great in the filter because as soon as she started bottom sitting I did a full water change and tank clean, and she was good for a couple days after, but then started to decline again, and this time, worse. So I have put her in the quarantine tank, but her health is not picking up. I've ordered a new filtration system, Fluval C3 power filter 20-50 gallon system, and it will arrive today. I'm in need of figuring out how to set up this new filter without contaminating it from the old filter, and also to hopefully save my goldfish. Any help is deeply appreciated!

Regular Member shakaho Posted June 26, 2019 Regular Member Share Posted June 26, 2019 I don't know what is wrong with the fish, but it is NOT nitrate poisoning. Your nitrate concentration is perfectly normal. How long have you had this fish?
Regular Member vulgarkitten Posted June 26, 2019 Author Regular Member Share Posted June 26, 2019 We have had her for five years, but she is six years old. She was a classroom fish from my daughter's grade 1 class.
Helper Arctic Mama Posted June 26, 2019 Helper Share Posted June 26, 2019 Could you gently lift her into your hand and tip her head forward into the aged to see her gills flare? Or lift one carefully with a fingernail? I’d like to hear what her gill color is, please. Is she being pushed around by the current if she tries to swim?
