Sick Lethargic Goldfish Not Eating

Recommended Posts

I just got my new goldfish 4 days ago. He/she hasn’t been swimming very strongly and swims typically by the filter. They are not eating when I throw food in there. I’ve tried mosquito larvae pellets, Betta pellets, flakes, and even dried algae. I’m getting the water tested at my LFS to make sure there is no ammonia, nitrates, nitrites etc. in the water. Any tips while I wait? Tank is a 20 gallon long.

Okay what we really really need is the numbers on the water.

LFS will only say if its normal or out of rage, no numbers.

I would highly suggest buying a API Master test kit. You can get them at any LFS :)

You need to be checking the ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, and ph :)

i have a test kit i recently bought but i got like 0 for the nitrates/nitrites or something like that .

Ill try it again after school, and get back to you. So far im treating with aquarium salt and its going really well. Im also upping the heat in the tank to 80degrees.

The liquid test kits tend to be much more accurate than the strips, the nitrate test can be tricky, but once you get used to it it's fine

He died yesterday, I think the heat from the ich treatment got to him from the heater :(

Thank you all for your help though!

On the brightside, i got a full refund and a new fish...
