Okay...Im moving to a new place where i can have a pond.  I was thinking of starting with one on our patio.  But it freezes on average 10 days a year here so im not sure.   what size is the smallest you would suggest?  not that i want a small one, but just wondering.  Any suggestions on how to start would be welcome!!!  Oh...and i already have a pond ice melter i found on our local swap site. Because i thought I  might need it for a patio pond...

If you’re only getting to freezing a few days a year I wouldn’t worry at all.  It takes fairly sustained freezing temperatures to really cause the water to freeze deeply, and a two or three foot pond with agitation from a fountain or filter should be just fine.  They do actually make pond heaters, too.

Around here, in southwest Ohio the recommended pond depth is four feet to have no issues with deeper freezes. But we are also seeing winter lows down in the teens for days on end.

Nit the best but I finally get one of the needs I've needed for two months Thursday. So hopefully that will help.

How are you feeling Daniel?
