This is Moby. He's by himself in his tank. He stated getting these spots a day ago. Anyone know what this is?

My boyfriend just did a water change. The aquarium store we used said it looked like hemorrhagic septicemia. He's alone in the tank which is about 30gallons. We have a big filter sitting next to it.

He has a massive infection.  Do you have any antibiotics or can you get some at the aquarium store?  Metronidazole, kanamycin, oxytetracycline, are possible treatments.  That fish is very sick.

How long have you had this fish?

After talking to our local fish center it was decided he had hemmorhagic septicemia. My boyfriend went and got antibiotics and has changed the water. Once I got home Moby seems to be doing betters he's much more active and his fins are out instead of tucked in.

We have probably had Moby for 4 years, but we adopted him from another family and we think he's about 10 years old.

The image is the antibiotic that was recommended.

Oh poor Moby, he's in pretty bad shape.

Please provide the information requested in the D&D form, Theres an amazing team here with a wealth of experience but they need some of that information so it can be factored into treatment options and give Moby a fighting chance.

I can't test because my boyfriend did a full water change and cleaned the pump filter we use.we had just had a massive algae bloom in that tank and I scrapped off the algae a few days ago. I don't know if that indicates a problem.

Good news.  We haven't had very good results with Maracyn 2, but if it works, use it.  I recommend you find some Metronidizole to use with it.  If you can't find plain metronidazole locally, get API General Cure, which contains metro.

Please show us the instructions for using Maracyn 2.  Often these products recommend a short treatment which will not completely destroy the pathogens in large fish like goldfish.  As a result, one actually selects for antibiotic-resistant bacteria so the fish gets better and then worse.
