Lottie Smith 0 Posted July 20, 2017 Hi all, my 2 year old oranda has had a lump on his back where his tail starts for about a year. It has remained very small up until about 2 weeks ago when it started growing rapidly. I have been treating with melafix & aquarium salt but it doesn't seem to be getting any better. It's now started to Darken in places, so much so that it's starting to look black. Its also starting to look sore. He is still very active as you can see, still eating well etc. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm worried that it's cancerous. I have attached a video Thanks! mjfromga 1,784 Posted July 20, 2017 Please copy & paste fill the following form and fill it out to the best of your ability when requesting help for Goldfish Problems: Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) * Nitrite Level(Tank) * Nitrate level(Tank) * Ammonia Level(Tap) * Nitrite Level(Tap) * Nitrate level(Tap) * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? * Water temperature? * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? * How often do you change the water and how much? * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? * How many fish in the tank and their size? * What kind of water additives or conditioners? * What do you feed your fish and how often? * Any new fish added to the tank? * Any medications added to the tank? * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Looks like a classic tumor to me. It likely won't respond to treatment. It definitely won't respond to Melafix and salt. In my experience, rapidly growing tumors are a huge pain in the rear. Even if you remove it, the chances of it returning are high. If it becomes too large, it'll affect his swimming. It being black is mildly concerning. If it opens up, it runs the risk of infection. Please fill out some of the form when you get the chance before we recommend any possible treatment. Another disease personnel will be along with a second opinion soon. Hang tight.

shakaho 6,312 Posted July 20, 2017 Can you please get a still picture of the lesion. You can get this with the fish in a small container or held in a hand. Has the black spot in the lump been there for long? Is the black spot behind the head raised? We don't know what "normal parameters" means. Please give numbers for both tank and tap, and tell us what you use to test. Please read this advice on filling out the form. We need the information.
