Tohru1529 65 Posted May 9, 2017 I just went to check on my goldfishes and everyone fine but pebbles. It look like a inner tumor just like what Flounder had. He die from it,I don't want the same thing happen to her. She so young she only 3 year old. I really don't want to lose her too. I also send Flounder photo it look the same. She is a happy fish.

mjfromga 1,784 Posted May 9, 2017 It's also a good idea to fill out the D/D form to the best of your ability. It's unlikely to have two fish die from internal tumors. They don't seem that common. Did you do a necropsy and confirm tumor on Flounder? I see a weird lump on the side, though its difficult to maintain what exactly the user speaks of. Is this a Shubunkin or a nymph calico fantail? I'm thinking Shubunkin since the rest are single tails too.

You left out some really important information which I have indicated above. Please answer these questions. The lump could come from an internal abscess as well as from a tumor. I wonder if a veterinarian could distinguish between these without killing the fish. I have multiple fish with internal tumors. They display no distress about this condition. An aquatic animal veterinarian, a specialist in viral disease, told me that he had never found viral tumors in fish, (the only way one would have contagious tumors). The affected fish live in different ponds, so contagion seems unlikely. Five years ago, multiple complaints from residents about "bad" water got the state to test the water in our city, We have unacceptable levels of TTHM (total trihalomethanes), and these have risen with time, although the water company tells us every quarter that they are working to reduce these and they won't hurt us anyway. THMs are known carcinogens. Get your water tested by a lab recommended by the state, not one of those companies that want to sell you an expensive filtration system. If you have organic contaminants suspected as carcinogens, put activated carbon in your filter(s) and change it regularly.
mjfromga 1,784 Posted May 9, 2017 If she does have an internal tumor, there's nothing that you can really do. If its an abscess, there's also little that can be done. Abscesses generally need to be drained before they will respond to antibiotics and for most people, this isn't practical in a fish. Hopefully it's a tumor and she will be able to live with it.

shakaho 6,312 Posted May 9, 2017 To me, in the video it looks more like a subcutaneous abscess/cyst than a tumor. You might try removing her to a separate container and treating with 0.3% salt.

shakaho 6,312 Posted May 9, 2017 Yes, you can. Carbon has no effect on salt. You might try gradually warming the tank to the upper 70s

Tohru1529 65 Posted May 10, 2017 Sharon how long should I do this treatment for pebbles?
shakaho 6,312 Posted May 10, 2017 Watch and see if anything happens. The "treatment" will not harm the fish, and it might help drain a subcutaneous cyst, if she has that. You don't want this drainage to occur in the main tank.
