Mighty 2 Posted February 19, 2017 (edited) Hi again! I bought a new fish that I think has a shipping injury. He's only been in my tank for a few days now so I can't say a whole lot about his history. I'm hoping someone can ease my mind about his throat or give me some advice. Has anyone seen this before? Should I be doing anything else? Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) 0 * Nitrite Level(Tank) 0 * Nitrate level(Tank) 0-5ppm * Ammonia Level(Tap) 0 * Nitrite Level(Tap) 0 * Nitrate level(Tap) 0-5ppm * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 8.2 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 8 Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API drops * Water temperature? 70 F ish * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 40 gallons, been running maybe a year. * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Aquaclear 70 and one big sponge filter. * How often do you change the water and how much? Weekly, 75%+ * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Yesterday, 90% * How many fish in the tank and their size? 2 goldfish, one is 4 inches total length, the other is maybe 1.5". They were shipped together. Both fancies. * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime * What do you feed your fish and how often? I haven't fed him much, just a few sinking pellets and some bloodworms. * Any new fish added to the tank? Both * Any medications added to the tank? I currently have salt to .3% * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. Just the salt at the moment. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? He has a lump protruding from his throat... I asked the seller if it was like that before but he didn't think so. He suggested lightly salting the tank which I did but I can't tell if it's getting better or worse. The first day it looked swollen but smooth. Today it looks much "sharper" and pronounced kind of like when a pimple comes to a head. He also has some redness at the base of his tail but I'm honestly not sure if that is his natural coloring. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Nothing outside the usual from shipping stress. He has pretty much gotten over all that and he's pretty perky now. The first 6 pictures are from the first day. The rest are from yesterday and today. Please let me know what you think, thanks Edited February 19, 2017 by Mighty
Arctic Mama 3,627 Posted February 19, 2017 Hmm... if you press on it gently does it move with the bony plates of the throat or stay stationary and sharp while the other bits flex?
Mighty 2 Posted February 19, 2017 It feels very firm but it does move with the rest of the throat
Mighty 2 Posted February 19, 2017 Poor fish also has a small bleed in both eyes. Looks like he had a rough trip. Snagged some more pictures while I was handling him. He doesn't seem to have issues eating thankfully. I didn't see him fully open his mouth for the first two days.
Arctic Mama 3,627 Posted February 19, 2017 Yes I'd assume a shipping injury with the redness and bleeding. Just keep him quarantined comfortably and feed him lightly. Lights off, stress low. He should heal on his own if there isn't an obstruction in his throat (which I don't believe there is at this point). Let me know if anything changes in his condition.

He was packaged really well, I just have bad luck with shipping sometimes... 3 hours ago, DawnMichele said: Hope he feels better.
