raduc 0 Posted June 29, 2016 Hello guys, I have recently bought a new goldfish and put it into the quarantine tank (which is 4 gallon big (or small )). From the first day I have noticed that he was making white poop. Also, the fish had issues maintaining an orizontal position when relaxed, he kept getting onto his head or even on his back (like in the image below): He doesn't seem too stressed about that though. And can swim correctly(?) when feeding for example or when not feeling lazy (my guess). At first i've treated him for an internal bacterial infection, due to the awkward swimming: https://www.sera.de/en/products/in_category/ornamental-fish-treatments-335/product/sera-baktopur-direct.html No change after 3-4 days. Then i read some threads on this forum and feeded him only peas for 4 days. Fasted him for a week.after. Still no change. Tried to diagnose him using http://www.jbl.de/en/online-hospital Seemed to me to be intestinal parasites now (used fish sick and fish not eating as selections, though the fish does eat...) Used this for 8 days: http://www.jbl.de/?lang=en&mod=products&func=detail&id=5573 I'm at the end of this treatment. There have passed 3 weeks + since I bought and quarantined him. I'm doing 50% water changes every 2-3 days. Feeding every 2 days 1 pea. Fish seems to have lost a little weight but might be due to the 1 week fast. It has normal appetite. Still poops white. Still floats. Doesn't seem to be affected by the floating Was thinking to try the other product they recommend now: http://www.jbl.de/?lang=en&mod=products&func=detail&id=5569 but tought I might ask here first. So any advice you guys have, would be appreciated. (pls mind that I live in europe and don't have access to your u.s.a. medications. jbl are the most easy to get here) thanks, radu

raduc 0 Posted June 29, 2016 Man, this D&D seems such a nuissance... I was hoping to manage without since it's a new fish in the quarantine tank etc plus i'm a lazy censoredLOL, but here it goes: * Ammonia Level(Tank) 0 * Nitrite Level(Tank) ~3 mg/l * Nitrate level(Tank) 50 mg/l * Ammonia Level(Tap) 0 * Nitrite Level(Tap) 0 * Nitrate level(Tap) 10 mg/l * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) PH 7.5, KH ~8, GH > 10 (maybe 12), CL 0 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) PH 7.2 KH 3, GH 16, CL 0 Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? JBL NH4 test (drops) and for the restTetra strips test 6 in 1 * Water temperature? ~86f degrees * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 4 gallon, 3 weeks - is the quarantine tank * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? CLARO 200 (it says it has 200L/hour debit but this seems a little bogus to me since it's the smallest internal filter i could find. Though it is for up to 10G tanks and quarantine is half that size..) * How often do you change the water and how much? every 2-3 days, 50% Test Results for the Following: * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Tuesday night 50% * How many fish in the tank and their size?(1) 2 inches (sans tail) * What kind of water additives or conditioners? none * What do you feed your fish and how often? 1 pea every 2 days * Any new fish added to the tank? - * Any medications added to the tank? still has JBL Nedol in it, half a dose, since i didn't supplement it at the last water change (see my prev post) * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment: Sera Bactopur direct - for 3 days, JBL Nedol for 8 days * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? white poop every time since i bough it * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? floatiness sometimes, though it doesn't seem to be bothered and it only seems to happen when he is relaxed, not trying to swim.
shakaho 6,312 Posted June 29, 2016 Thanks for filling out that annoying form. The first thing I noticed was the high nitrate level. This can cause buoyancy problems. I'd like you to do a 100% water change, and then change 50% of the water every day. When you do the 100% water change, add 1/2 teaspoon (1.5 g) of aquarium salt or any other salt that is 100% NaCl. For the 50% water changes, add half as much salt to replace what you removed. The salt will protect your fish from the toxic effects of the nitrite. If you have been feeding your fish only 1 pea every other day for 3 weeks, the little guy may have become a bit malnourished. While nutritious, peas do not provide a balanced diet. Please switch to a tiny feeding of a good fish food daily. We recommend praziquantel, the active ingredient in Gyrodol, for all fish in quarantine, so please use that product.

raduc 0 Posted June 29, 2016 Thanks a lot for your response Sharon. I will do as you suggested. Also great to know JBL Gyrodol has praziquantel as I kept seeing everybody recommending it in this forum and had no idea where I could find it! Thanks for the welcome everybody else! I will keep you up to date.
raduc 0 Posted November 6, 2016 So, I was owing you an update:Thing is it took me 2 weeks to find some salt without additives so I couldn't start the treatment immediately. Meanwhile I had continued to treat with Prazi/Gyrodol. Once I got the salt I've added that. Kept doing water changes every 1 or 2 days and replacing the salt and medicine. Did that for aprox 3 weeks, during which time i noticed that the fish didn't float as much and poop looking normal several times. So I decided he was fine and moved him to the main aquarium. He has been doing well, ever since: So many thanks again for the support.
