Anorea 144 Posted May 13, 2016 I need help identifying this, please. My other fish in the tank doesn't have anything on him, and this fish doesn't have any other spots worth this on it. It's only on the leading edges of his little arm fins. (Pectoral fins?) I recently added a Nerite Snail, and that's been the only change to his environment. Thanks a bunch, and let me know if i need to take better photos, please. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

alexloo11 64 Posted May 13, 2016 All I see are the dots on his pectoral fins, and if those are the only ones then that means those are breeding stars indicating that he's a male ready to breed.
Anorea 144 Posted May 13, 2016 Oh really? That would really male me feel better. Are you sure? Please don't think I'm being skeptical of you, i just want to make sure. I love him so much that i don't want to skip over it if it is something bad. Thanks so much for the reply! alexloo11 64 Posted May 13, 2016 I'm pretty positive since my big lionhead has the same thing. All I see are little white tubercles on his pectoral fins. I don't see anything else on his body or anything. No signs of flashing or rubbing on objects? If that's the case, it means he's a boy and ready to spawn.
mjfromga 1,784 Posted May 13, 2016 Alex is probably right, that's a common location for breeding stars. His look a little larger and bumpier than most I've seen, but they're probably breeding stars.
Anorea 144 Posted May 13, 2016 Oh yay! Thanks so much you guys! He doesn't have them anywhere else, no. He and the other fish have been nudging/chasing each other more often recently. I'll continue to watch him carefully though. Ooooh yay, I really hope it's breeding stars. It's nice to confirm him as male, too!
Anorea 144 Posted May 13, 2016 Those marks are about as tall(thick) as his fins are. Does that sound right?
Speckles 1,178 Posted May 14, 2016 Maybe a mod can confirm?
LisaCGold 1,691 Posted May 14, 2016 As far as I can tell, those look like breeding stars.

alexloo11 64 Posted May 14, 2016 Nudging other fish is definitely a sign of hitting breeding maturity age and characteristics of breeding. He's a boy! Congrats
