Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Helping my dad out on this one.

  • Test Results for the Following:
    • * Ammonia Level(Tank) 0ppm
    • * Nitrite Level(Tank) 0ppm
    • * Nitrate level(Tank)  10ppm
    • * Ammonia Level(Tap)
    • * Nitrite Level(Tap)
    • * Nitrate level(Tap) na
    • * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) na
    • * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)   na
    • Other Required Info:
      • * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops?  API Master kit
      • * Water temperature?  72
      • * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running?  75
      • * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Eheim 2080 450 gallon gph, Aqua clear 70 hob
      • * How often do you change the water and how much? 50-60% weekly
  • * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? 3 days 50%
  • * How many fish in the tank and their size? 6 3" tl, 2 3.5" tl
  • * What kind of water additives or conditioners? prime
  • * What do you feed your fish and how often? Hikari Lionhead once a day with treats of frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp a few times a week.  Peas once a week.
  • * Any new fish added to the tank? 1 month ago, this one
  • * Any medications added to the tank? on the second round of prazi
  • * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment.  just prazi
  • * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? bumps and pimples on wen.
  • * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? normal

The bumps and pimples appeared just after the first round of prazi treatment.  Only the one fish.  Could it be the Prazi killing off the flukes?

The white stuff floating around is the prazi, second round.

I know it seems like a lot of fish but my dad is upgrading to a 90 gallon in few weeks and he is giving me one of his ranchu!

:thumbup2:

Also i didn't get a chance to test his water but we are in the same area and mine is ammonia 0ppm, 0 nitrites and 0-5ppm nitrates.

Also the eheim is rated to 300 gallon tanks.  It has 6 gallon capacity for water and 12 litres of capacity for media.

Thanks for any help.

It looks like wen growth or skin that might have been irritated.

Did you place salt in the tank?

Oops. Can't edit my last post.

Hi Koko.

Thanks for the reply.

He is in a 10 gallon hospital tank now and we are raising salinity to 3% over 2 days.

So just observe with the salt for now?

Appreciate the help.

Those spots on the wen doesn't look like anything but natural wen growth. My lionhead had the same exact white discoloration while his head and wen was developing. It almost looks like a fungal infection, but it's not, it's just wen growth that will fade within a couple of days or when the wen's new layer has grown.

I'm guessing you mean 0.3% salt, not 3% . . . .

What prazi product are you using?  Do you have salt in there and prazi now or just salt?
