I use this on mine. Not too expensive and gets the job done. If you wait for one of those petsmart or petco sales, you can pick one up there for even cheaper.

When I was looking for one for my 125, the people at my LFS (not big box) were able to order them for me.

For the 40B, they had two types in stock - the first didn't fit (it was a hair too big) but the other was fine. Just make sure you measure inside the lip of the tank so you don't get the wrong thing, if you do have to order it in.

oh okay.

but yeah the dimensions sound right. I thought it was 16" tall but never put much thought into the height.

Eh, seller backed out of deal. Another guy says his aquarium is 48 inches "long" 18 inches "high" and 12 inches "wide". What gallonage would that even hold? I looked on the dimensions site and could NOT find this size at all.

The closest one to me is in Chamblee, which at about 45 minutes away - isn't what I call local.

I'm outside the city limits BTW - technically not Atlanta but its the closest major city so I just put Atlanta. You do realize they don't put fish shops in low type income areas, right? Not sure what's funny - but okay.

You provided measurements in inches:

Width: 48" (121.92cm)

Height: 18" (45.72cm)

Depth: 12" (30.48cm)

Your tank's volume is approximately 10,368.0 cubic inches or 44.9 U.S. gallons, which is approximately

I think those would fit

Yes its quite far to the nearest shop, and its mostly saltwater based from what I read and so its not really great for goldfish owners anyway. I live in a small, lower middle class area and there is really only Walmart locally. I buy almost EVERYTHING fish related online because some stuff is very hard to find otherwise and Petco is so pricey on many items. Nobody here really keeps goldfish seriously, everyone I know thinks I'm insane for loving them, truly. Get laughed at quite often, so my bad for that wee outburst

I feel your pain, When I lived in CA there was plenty of shops I could shop at for Goldfish and some of the Shops knew that I ran a Goldfish forum.... But now Im living in the country, I got a Petco and and Petsmart but both of them are a drive and pricey... I get most of my stuff from them or order online depending on which is cheaper....

No one said raising goldfish was easy, I rank them right up there with SW fish. Once you have it all down its easy but the beginning is a learning curve, and then we are always learning every day... I know I have learned alot from Helen and Sharon :)

Just to give you a simple and cheap way of getting a lid, I recently bought plexiglas at the local DIY shop and had it cut to the measurements of my tanks. For 3 big tanks, it cost around 125$ with them being cut by the shop. So for a smaller tank, it sohuldn't be more than $25 :)

And it has the added bonus of not being glas, so it is harder to break if yout drop it or such.

So I'm going to jump in here with a super cheap diy lid.

It's greenhouse roofing material you can buy from any Lowes or home depot. I paid I think 30$ for one sheet and made lids for 2 40b tanks, one 20long tank and 2 10gallon lids.

You can buy the foam pieces for the side for another like 5$. And silicone them on. The stuff is lightweight, plastic type of material and can be cut with regular scissors, and for someone like me with neurological damage to not have to deal with breakable glass is awesome.

I cut a small square out to drop food in and since they are greenhouse roofing panels all the light needed gets through to your plants.

Please excuse the mess in my basement ????

That looks awesome. I'm still absolutely sure I'd botch it up! I ended up with a 55 gallon and after seeing how it looks, my next tank will be a 55 gallon, as well. I figured I'd just hack up the money for proper hoods when I get them. About $60 additional dollars.
