I just wanted to pick everyones brain on why my fish would be sitting toward the bottom a lot. I noticed him/her shaking his/her head for a few seconds today. The other goldfish who was also about 13 years old died recently and I'm not sure if that has something to do with the moping. Any thoughts?

Is there any way you could video the behavior and post it for us, please?

I personally do think that this behavior needs to be addressed, because this isn't normal behavior. A fish sitting on the bottom is not often just 'moping' if other symptoms are present.

Thanks for filling out the form. :heart A mod should be by soon to assess further.

The form is great, thank you!

When was the last time you treated this fish for flukes? Head shaking, bottom sitting, clamping, or sullen/mopey behavior isn't normal, and oftentimes indicate parasite issues. We recommend fluke treatments every six months or so to knock back the population to a manageable level and keep the fish healthy. It's pretty much impossible to eliminate flukes altogether, but we can set them back a few dozen generations of progress ;)
