SweetMamaKaty 2,788 Posted August 11, 2015 I know a lot of us here have Aqua Clear hang-on-back filters. When someone is feeling ambitious, could you possibly do me a favor? (or even better, multiple someones!) I would love to see a video of how different people go about cleaning the filter. Like have someone record you from the very beginning - taking it off the back, going wherever you go with it, and what steps you actually do to clean it, what pieces you take apart and so on, and then putting it back on the tank. Like a visual step-by-step cleaning guide for dummies. Any takers?

fantailfan1 26,742 Posted August 11, 2015 I would do it but that would require me on video and that's not happening. I lube the impeller with every cleaning but not every WC . . .

Georgia 3,820 Posted August 11, 2015 I can try! Perhaps we can compile a thread with the videos? I have the worst time cleaning the curved part of the tubing. OMG yes. I tried one of those metal bendy rods that have bristles on the ends, but even those are a pain to manuever. Plus the metal ends tend to scratch the plastic. I just scrub the inside of the straight ends with a toothbrush and leave the middle part to stay gross. But I bleach them every couple filter cleans, so that helps with the build-up.

I love the idea of a compilation thread. I think it might actually help a lot of people! Maybe I should be pre-asking canister people to do the same, I want to get my canister going at some point...
CourtneyandThunder 131 Posted August 11, 2015 I find using a toothbrush for the tubs work very well. I will try and get a step by step one for you. You never should go gung ho on cleaning filters, you will loose your good bacteria.
