Thanks guys :heart

Koko, I get confused easily, sorry! Would you mind explaining again?

Do I need to take all the silver out the tank?

Then for 1 week, I do Melafix at a half dose daily...... then for the second week do melafix at a full dose daily?

He still has 17 drops of silver in the tank, but I am half way through filtering some new water for his WC today.

Does it matter if some silver remains in the tank or do I need to do a 100% change, ready for the Melafix?

What he looks like now:

His fins look so healthy from above, that I sometimes can't believe they look like this when I turn him over :(

It's day 4 of Melafix. First full dose (13ml) added today.

I haven't checked underneath his tail yet but he seems happy and normal. Will take a pic tomorrow

Day 8 of Melafix

He's had 4 full doses

Taken this pic just now:

This is the very worst angle of his tail. In life it looks as if there has been a small improvement

Shall I continue with the Melafix?

He's in his 2nd silver bath but my digital thermometer is playing up. I've ended up with a 1 degree (Celsius) difference between the tank and the bucket :( I should have hand tested it first but it was too late. The bucket definitely felt warmer. Do you think he'll be ok?

Will be fine :) I usually end up with 1-2 degrees warmer in things like that

That's a relief! Thanks Mandy

:teehee I love your Christmas google profile pic!!!! :hoho

Thanks Speckles :) I've used this pic for the past few Christmases now, so he's significantly younger, as you can tell by the smaller eyes. Poor Googs... they just keep growing!

Update:

- 5 silver baths

- 13 days of Melafix

- just had 10th full dose

In the past 24 hours, things have got worse. No improvement on his tail and something weird has happened to his eye. I've never seen it looking like this. He's had cataracts for years but it's normally just a little whitish and cloudy, not like this muddy puddle colour and definitely not covering the whole lense.

I also fear that there is slight raising of his scales:

I have yet to purchase that 'just in case' Metroplex as I can't afford it and I had trouble sourcing it from a UK location.

Is it time to let go?

Or am I letting my stressed state of mind and my financial situation cloud my judgement?

I know no one can really answer that.

I just don't know if I have the strength left to keep going with him

He also looks slightly swollen in those photos but not so much in life. I need to have a closer look at him after his bath.

I'm defrosting some blood worms. I know that he'll hoover them up without any problems which makes me feel so wrong for even considering euthanasia.

You can see his murky eye lens from this angle too

And here you can see how much his left eye has grown (or is swollen) compared to the other one.
