Another Eye Blister

Recommended Posts

I wasn't sure whether to start a new thread or continue on the old one. This is the link to February's blister:

http://www.kokosgoldfish.invisionzone.com/forum/index.php?/topic/119986-another-blister/page-7

It's in the same place on top of the eye orb and is pretty big.

Test Results for the Following:

* Ammonia Level(Tank) 0

* Nitrite Level(Tank) 0

* Nitrate level(Tank) <10

* Ammonia Level(Tap) 0

* Nitrite Level(Tap) 0

* Nitrate level(Tap) 40 (I use a filter)

* Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 8

* Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7.6

Other Required Info:

* Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API drops

* Water temperature? 22.5 C

* Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 100litres, about 3 years

* What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? 1800lph

* How often do you change the water and how much? 50-90% every 10 days lately (I've had health issues)

* How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Yesterday 80%

* How many fish in the tank and their size? 1 goldfish

* What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime

* What do you feed your fish and how often? Once or twice a day. Repashy, Shrimp pellets. Bloodworms once every 7-14 days

* Any new fish added to the tank? No

* Any medications added to the tank? No

I gave him a silver bath yesterday for 30 minutes.

I was wondering whether to continue with this treatment daily like before or try something else?

Also, my first aid kit is looking pretty bare after throwing out some stuff that was out of date.

What do you recommend I should get, incase of another dropsy attack, for example? I used to use MMs which were very effective, but I'm not sure what the deal is with that now.

Also, should I still try and get hold of that nitrofurazone?

Thanks in advance

Please excuse all the poop in these pics... I've wiped the tank floor down twice today already

Also, I forgot to mention, there has been a lot of dead plant debris in the tank lately and I've been away for the past week so I haven't been around to remove it. Do you think this has been a contributing factor to his blister?

Thanks Koko, I went & got some more epsom today incase you suggested that :thumb:

I will start treatment asap.

Is there anything else you recommend I have on hand just in case?

Prazipro and epsom are the only things I have in my fishy first aid kit

If I remember correctly we used MM's too last time?

Do we have any of that on hand?

Yes but they're probably about 2 years old now :(

Shall I order some metronidazole just in case?

Just to double check, is it one teaspoon of espom per 10 gallons? There's a small box instead of a number in Helen's Espom salt article

I re-read my other blister thread. It was recommended to do 1/4 tsp per 10 gallons

Awe, poor little guy battling blisters again. Hopefully the Epsom does it and nothing else is needed :)

There's no change (although I know I only added the epsom yesterday)

I don't think epsom did anything last time either. Shall I try the MMs? They were opened in February so I'm thinking they'll be ok still?

I didn't see your post until just now Koko so he is still on just the Epsom treatment. He seems to have made a big improvement overnight :nana

It looks to have reduced by at least half.

I'll hold off again on the MMs for now

It's day 7 of Epsom, and no blister change since my last update. It's still very visible. Also, I have caught my Danio flicking himself against the bottom the tank.

I have tried to find out when I last treated with Prazipro but I can't find where I wrote down that information. It must be within the past year.

What are my next steps? A single or full treatment of Prazi? Meds?

Has this tank had anything new added to it?

Has Danio been in Epsom salt before hun?

Is it a closed tank?

Yes, the tank has a full lid.

I think the Danio has been in epsom before but I also notice this behaviour after most water changes. Even when I match the added water perfectly. Maybe he's sensitive to Prime? :idont

I added new plants fairly recently and even though I rinsed them in PP, we have a new tiny resident baby snail.

It's day 8 today so I'm going to remove all the epsom shortly...

When I asked a closed system... Meaning nothing goes in... but I see you added Plants... So I wonder if something on the plants is bothering him hun....

I would do the Meds hun :)

No, I stopped after one silver bath when you suggested epsom.

I'll start the MMs this morning.

Thank you for your help Koko :hug

Ok, was just about to give him his first dose of MMs when I've noticed another improvement in his eye. The blister is still there but it's a lot flatter. Shall I still go ahead or wait again?
