GoldenSpoiledRotten 6,786 Posted June 28, 2015 Yep. This is breeding log 2015! My Orandas spawned on the 23rd or 24th of June. The fry hatched 3 days later. Today's head count is 95. They'll be raised here, in a utility tub outside : Their mommy is Sencha. There are a possible 3 daddies.

GoldenSpoiledRotten 6,786 Posted June 28, 2015 What teeny little fishlets! I'm looking forward to seeing your posts on how they grow. Hahaha Fishlets! I love that. Can't wait to see these little guys grow up! I can't wait either. My new fish itch is just massive right now, but I was saving room for two or three of these. I bet the fry will be gorgeous when they are older but what have we told you about bowls... they aren't good But doesn't it make a good container to show size? No wonder people used to use them to keep what they thought were adult fish in them... the fry are so tiny!

GoldenSpoiledRotten 6,786 Posted June 28, 2015 (edited) The stocking police are going to get you! How do you count 95 fry without getting lost? I guess I must resign as the chief of the stocking police. One by one. I got them all into one of the blue bowls I used last year, then transferred them to the goldfish bowl via a small scoop. She trains the baby fish to line up on the sound of a clicker and gives every fish a few brine shrimp for being well behaved One day... one day... One by one. I used a little scoop after I got them all into one of the blue bowls I used last year, then transferred them to the goldfish bowl using a small plastic cup. Well each day you are one day closer then

GoldenSpoiledRotten 6,786 Posted June 28, 2015 Will you be selling any of the cuties to desirous board members? *ahem* Congratulations on the spawning! Mayhaps, depending on who survives. Thanks, Taryl.

RanchuDressing 2,542 Posted June 29, 2015 I wonder if perhaps more than one of your males are the fathers. That would make things even more interesting in terms of variety. Congrats on the fry!
FishyMandy 6,277 Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) Ooh adorable little guys! Can't wait to see them grow!(But shame on you overstocking like that, don't you know you need 1900gallons for them!) : : (sorry had to say something ) Could you imagine trying to find each little fry in that much water Edited June 29, 2015 by FishyMandy
GoldenSpoiledRotten 6,786 Posted June 29, 2015 I wonder if perhaps more than one of your males are the fathers. That would make things even more interesting in terms of variety. Congrats on the fry! I bet that you're right, and I hope so, too. It would speed things up if I had some with pompoms and some with the Tosakin tail gene. Ooh adorable little guys! Can't wait to see them grow! (But shame on you overstocking like that, don't you know you need 1900gallons for them!) : : (sorry had to say something ) Could you imagine trying to find each little fry in that much water 1900!? But I live in a one room flat on the 19th floor! (kidding!) I don't know what I would do. Finding all of them in the 10 gallons of water in their tub is already difficult come WC time! I can't wait until I can raise the water level so that they have a decent amount of water. And when I move back to college and need to set up a tank for them... oh my lords and ladies that will be a hassle!
GoldenSpoiledRotten 6,786 Posted June 29, 2015 Just tossed some finely crushed pellets in this morning since some appeared to be able to eat. these guys already have my heart.
GoldenSpoiledRotten 6,786 Posted July 3, 2015 First cull complete. We are down to 88 fry. The first cull was to remove fry that didn't develop Swim Bladders. Everyone else is doing well. Hoji must be a father since he has been a bit more sluggish than normal, which suggests to me he has been chasing, since he is stout and it's hard for him to swim quickly.
