Regular Member 2fancies Posted April 4, 2015 Regular Member Share Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) I'm moving up in tank size. I've heard of people using existing filter media on new tanks. I was planning on moving everything into new setup, including water. If anyone has any tips I would greatly appreciate them. I'm worried about new tank not being cycled fast enough and causing stress to fish. Regular Member GoldenSpoiledRotten Posted April 4, 2015 Regular Member Share Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) You do not need to move the water to the new setup. There isn't enough beneficial bacteria to matter in it, and fresh water is always the better option. By moving all of your old filters and old media over, you are going to be bringing most of your beneficial bacteria over with you. The only risk you run is getting a minor bump in the cycle. You don't have to cycle the tank again or anything. Everything else you want to move over is up to you. So long as you still have your filter media, you will be fine.
