I have a Fluval 406 and I wanted to get some opinions on what everyone was using? Is it better to have all of the shelves packed with no rings and mechanical or some carbon ammonia chips mix? Thanks in advance! [emoji2]

No chemical for me either, unless its an emergency to remove toxins or left over medications from the water.  I read on the 'Internets' that overuse of Carbon can contribute to Hole in the head disease.  Source below for what its worth.   For filters that contain carbon built in them- I try and strip it out.

My lowest drawer is one Aquaclear 70 sponge on each side, the one above that is 3 layers of cut-to-fit bonded padding on each side, and above that I have two trays of marineland and fluval bio rings.
