Golden Moments

So I thought it would be fun to hear some of your most golden moments of keeping gold fish!

Mine would be when one day I was in the shower and I forgot to grab the new shampoo bottle I bought which was still in the grocery bag on my kitchen counter. So I quickly hoped out and went to grab it.

Now just so you know my bf says he hates my fish. He always complains about the water hoes, buckets, constant amazon fish packages, helping me lift tanks, and in general how much time I put in to the hobby. He's a real Debbie downer.

So while grabbing my shampoo... I hear baby talk. "Aww.. look at you!", "Hehe", "cubby chunkers"

Out of curiosity I peak around the corner... my bf is freaking dumping cube after cube of brine shrimp into my tank! My gold fish are wiggling and beggin like crazy... workin their magic... ofcourse.

I scream ofcourse cause I already just fed them and now I'm freaking out cause I'm wondering how many times he's done this and over protective mama mode just in flames me.

But in short is my most golden moment cause watching my bf and goldies interact was priceless! Plus he can't complain any more muhaha!

The first times each of my goldfish hand-fed are always prevalent in my head.

The first time Tsumo (RIP) stuck his whole head in the middle of my hand and rubbed it was another one...

and just a couple days ago when my boyfriend took me out to get fish and fish stuff for the first time. He patiently walked with me through the whole store and let me tell him all about the fish and which ones were what. We were kneeling down in front of a goldfish tank and I was trying to look for a female, when he asked what a male looked like and I showed him the breeding stars on one of them. He got really excited when he could point out the males to me. :)

I think the day when my dad admitted that my tank looks good is what I would call a golden moment :rofl and the occasions when he's commented on how big my fry have become :heart

I also quite enjoyed the time I found my little brother on the step ladders dangling his fingers in the tank, playing with Charlie, 'his' fish :teehee

Hand-feeding all my fish;

The times my boyfriend brings me to different fish stores and pet stores and gets as excited as me about it;

The time my dad commented that my fish has grown fast, after complaining I changed my water too much...;

Seeing my fish grow :)

I agree with Flipper :)

But I have to say my husband is total downer too with how much time I spend on the tank, the fish, the supplies, the water issues.  I do complain a lot about our water.  He hates how they are in general pretty sickly fish if you compare them with tropicals.  He would like to see me switch to a tropical tank and I think about it but the goldies have such personality and they always seem so happy to see me and they make eye contact like other fish don't.  :wub:

When my GF (also goldfish crazy) gave me a self made Goldfish t-shirt for Christmas was a pretty golden moment for me :)

Getting new fish is always exiting - especially when I got my pandas! Waited 6 months for them and then finally see them in the store for me to buy! What a rush!

When we brought Fairydust back to life after she stopped breathing and hand to hold her for several hours before she was somewhat OK again. Sadly her SBD only got worse after that, and we had to put her down.

Just seeing how much they have grown! 10 times the weight as when we first bought them (in February!), that means a lot to me.

Oh yeah... and seeing peoples faces when they first see our apartment filled with tanks :D

I'm glade I'm not the only one who deals with Debbie downers! And that's awesome that your goldies inspire you to keep going on with your gold fish tank! They are pretty tough fish at times to care for but in the end its always worth it!

Whenever I get a phone call from a friend or family member and they ask me, "What are you doing?"  There are many times I'll be in the middle of a water change or feeding my fish or something else related to the fish and I'll tell the person on the other end of the phone.  It's a golden moment that I don't get a negative "again" from them.  "Your doing that again, Cheryl?"  I think going on three years now they all know this is what I do and enjoy.

I had two separate golden moments not too long ago with a S.D.G. & E.  employee that was over here and a business man helping me with something.  When they came in my home and saw my goldfish tank with a few live plants and my planted betta tank they were asking me a ton of questions on that and about my goldfish.  Our conversation lasted for a really long time especially seeing they were suppose to be helping me with something and we were talking "fish" instead.  hehehe   It made me feel really good that they were interested in my fish and tanks.

Another golden moment that I will never forget was when I did surgery on Jet, my Blue Oranda with Helen's help/assistance via Skype.  I learned so much from Helen and my fish.  It was pretty amazing.

^ I can't believe you did surgery on your own goldfish. :blink: I would be way too nervous to do anything like that, I give you tons of credit!

I haven't had my goldies very long, (only about 2 months) but I'd have to say my favorite moment is coming home everyday and when I walk in they give me their little **Wiggle wiggle** dance.  AKA: The "Mama you were gone much to long and we need food NOW, Slave human!!"  dance. :P
