FishyMandy 6,284 Posted November 12, 2014 Okay home now Got the eggs in another tank instead of the container I had them in now, do I need to put an airstone or anything with the eggs? I suspect the Parents are Cali (mum) and Tiger (dad). Tiger chases Cali often, and was chasing last night before I went to bed. I woke up and went to the tank and found all of their fake plants up rooted, all their airstones moved around, and all the fish foraging in one corner, I turned their lights on and saw the eggs and went into hyper mode Cali has a white filmy/fluffy stuff over her? I can't really get it to show up on photos but I've separated her for a little to give her a break. This is my first time ever having eggs, anything I absolutely need to know? Photos coming!

blackmoors 359 Posted November 12, 2014 Congrats. Must be the weather. I had several spawns this morning too. If you haven't done so already put a few drops of methalyne blue into the water with the eggs. Stops the unfertilized eggs from making the fertilized eggs going mouldy.
FishyMandy 6,284 Posted November 12, 2014 I don't have any methalyne Blue but I will get some tomorrow ^__^ Hopefully that will be ok I'm so excited for my first attempt hatching eggs/raising fry.
blackmoors 359 Posted November 12, 2014 Well if this is your first spawn get ready.... lol You may end up with a spawn a week now.
FishyMandy 6,284 Posted November 12, 2014 Lol wow But yes this is my first ever spawn.
blackmoors 359 Posted November 12, 2014 As Un... eye appealing as it is when goldfish are spawning regularly I've found bare bottom tanks to be best as there isn't as much injury/damage to the fish during the chase/spawn compared to gravel bottom.
FishyMandy 6,284 Posted November 12, 2014 Yea, I've actually been regretting going back to gravel now. It's a pain lol
blackmoors 359 Posted November 12, 2014 Lol. I've still got my gravel.. Although it's in a bucket lol.

FishyMandy 6,284 Posted November 12, 2014 Thanks And to answer your earlier question (sorry I missed it!) as long as all goes well I'd love to keep at least a couple of the fry, is going to be hard rehoming the others

FishyMandy 6,284 Posted November 13, 2014 (edited) Oh! Some questions the eggs that are all white are bad, right? What's the best way to remove them? I get scared if I move the plants around too much I'll 'hurt' the other eggs Do I need to do water changes for the eggs? Best way to do water changes for the fry when they hatch? FishyMandy 6,284 Posted November 14, 2014 I've removed the bad eggs, and have bought brine shrimp eggs and a sponge filter. How deep should I have the water when the eggs hatch? Should I have a heater? What temperature? I counted how many I can see eyes in! About 80!
jmetzger72 6,976 Posted November 14, 2014 Hi Mandy, I just reported this to the other Mods as I have no experience with fry. I do know that the brine shrimp eggs and the sponge filter are good choices. As for removing eggs, I think I've read about people siphoning them out with a piece of air tubing?
