tested my water today before adding baking soda and it's BAD:(

Tonight's results:

For once, it looked more yellow in person! :nana

Sooo, I will be testing tomorrow. Do I add Prime tonight or not?

Problem is, I have to leave tomorrow night and I won't be back until some time Monday late afternoon/night.

Do I do a wc tomorrow to be safe or can I wait until I get back Monday?

I don't think you need to add Prime tonight. Test tomorrow when you still have time for a WC just in case one is needed. :)

Results this morning!

Looking down through the top, the ammonia is still yellow! :nana

I get out at work at 9 tonight, so I can test again before I leave, if you think I need to.

Should I dose with Prime before I leave?

I also tested nitrites just in case and they are still a definite 0! :thumb:

I will be doing a wc on Chicklet's qt in a few minutes.

I think dosing Prime before you leave won't hurt, might help. And if you don't feed before you leave that will help keep the ammonia at 0 or low at least. :D

ammonia was .25 before I left. I added a cupful of Prime and refrained from feeding the starving little begging faces.

I hope you added a capful, not a cupful, of Prime. :o

They do give you the guilt trip, haven't been fed for a month look when they aren't being fed. :teehee

Just got home!

Not sure if I need to/should do a wc.

Should I just add Prime tonight or do a wc?Neither?

Looking down in the ammonia tube:

Shouldn't the nitrates be 0 though? I'm pretty sure they were 0 the last time I checked before all this happened. :hummm

No, the nitrates shouldn't be 0. Nitrates are the end product of the nitrogen cycle. We do WCs to remove them. Once they get to about 20 (or weekly, whichever comes first) is when you'll want to do another WC. :D

Ok, I'm thinking the Na looks to be around 20 or am I mistaken?

Tomorrow would have been a week! :cry

Thought the ammonia looked greener, but pretty sure it's still yellow, looking down into it. :/

Nitrate looks to be in the 10-20 range, hard to tell on a computer. I think you're fine waiting til tomorrow to do a WC. Just do a very large one tomorrow. :D

Yay!

Do you think I can start adding in the baking soda with tomorrow's water change or should I wait awhile longer?

I haven't tested it recently, but it usually shows 7.4-7.6. The kh&gh are extremely low. I just have to add one drop for it to change color.

Tap is 7.4-7.6 or tank? Or both?

Both usually. I'll test them again.

Oh Crap! Something is going on. :(

Usually the tank and the tap are the same.

I'm uploading a vid now.

Usually both are solidly in the 7.4 on the high range kit. Almost the exact color.

When I use the regular ph test it's always 7.6 or darker.

OK, you're confusing me. :rofl

To test pH, test with the regular range first. If that color matches one on the regular range chart, that's the pH. If it's as dark as the 7.6 on the low range, tehn test with the high range pH kit. Whichever color it then matches on the high range chart is the pH.

Now tell me what your pH is tap and tnak. Don't make me watch the video again. :tomuch:
