What type of goldfish is this?

Recommended Posts

I have 2 goldfish that I need help identifying. The orange one I thought was a fantail but now I'm thinking it's a ryukin. The white one I think is a fantail but I don't really know for sure if it is.

The top one looks like a ryukin to me (but I could be wrong :idont ) , and the bottom one is a fantail. They're both gorgeous

Does the bottom one have a dorsal?

Does the bottom one have a dorsal?

Doesn't look like it, does it? I also see a strange bump...

I just presumed that it was bent over :idont

I'm leaning towards fantail on the orange one due to lack of pronounced hump.

I would say the first is a young Ryukin which may develop more of a hump with age. The second looks to be a Shukin if there is no dorsal.

:bingo: you can see it at the very beginning that it is bent over.

I would say you have a ryukin and fantail :)

The orange one looks like my fish, which was sold to me as a ryukin but I was told here that he was a swallow-tailed fantail, probably from ryukin stock. My fish has the exact same fin type and body shape as yours. :)

I would say yours looks longer in the body. Beautiful fish though :)

I have never seen a dorsal bend that low before. It is almost as if it broken at the base if it is bent that low. Usually there is a visible bend.

My orandas dorsal is like that. It's a defect but I don't care. :)

Very cute, both of them!! Gorgeous coloring on the orange one (and yes I see that awesome tele in there!! Love that one!!)

I'm so curious to see more pictures of the white one. It's complete matte, right?

The first reminds me of my Rachel.

Here's Nishiki when I first got her:

And then a couple of years later:

So, as you can see...the hump can develop over time :)

Yes, it does have a dorsal. It's just bent over. All of its fins flow through the water like a cape. It's pretty cool!

Okay, then it's not a Shukin. I thought that was just a bump or a spike in the first pic :)

She's beautiful that shot looks like a still frame from a David Attenborough/BBC documentary: beautiful fish against black lol. But seriously. She's transparent and rose coloured?! I am so into it :)
