Cotton wool inside eye?

Hi guys,

I got two old fish in a 55 gallon, they're both pushing 15 years old. Both fish are healthy but my common suffered an eye injury about 3 or 4 years ago, it was hanging off!

It seemed to recover but always looked jet black even though she seemed to be using it. then it went completely white, it has always looked blind (to me) since the accident.

Two weeks ago she had what looked like a cataract growing over it, as I was afraid of infection I have kept my eye on it (sorry)

It's grown bigger, the pictures do not show it too well, but looking from above the white is not growing over her eye it's growing in it?

I imagine this makes it un-treatable I just wondered what it was, she still appears to be able to see out of it! And apart from this seems happy and healthy.

cheers.

Hi, yeah it's rounf they both protrude a lot, that's how she injured it, you can't tell on the good eye as it's very clear but they are both identical in size, it almost looks like a piece of white polystyrene packing has got stuck in there. Injury was years ago.

Cheers guys, obviously I will keep my eyes on it but for now that's a relief.

There were 3 fish but there was a chlorine spike in my tap water many years ago they all went brown and to fight the problem I went to daily water changes before finding out the taxi firm at the end of my road were taken to hospital with poisoning from tap water (I don't drink it.

They were all very sick and I lost one managed to save these two quite scarred seem happy enough.

Thanks for the help.

For the newer KGW members who may not be aware, I believe that these fish are the oldest living goldfish (living in a tank) from a KGW member. It's fantastic to read about them every time, and I hope that they have many more years to go! :)
