Regular Member mygoldfishmylife Posted July 17, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted July 17, 2014 She is in another country and she is coming back next week. I am supposed to go over to her house and I am so excited!!! But the thing is, she wants to read my essay that we had to write over the summer. I do not want her to read it and I dont know how to tell her that without sounding harsh or rude. I dont want her to think that I dont want her stealing my ideas. Thanks
Helper FishyMandy Posted July 17, 2014 Helper Share Posted July 17, 2014 Just tell her you aren't comfortable with showing it to anyone else, she should understand
Regular Member motherredcap Posted July 17, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted July 17, 2014 No need for much explaining. Just tell her you aren't done and aren't happy with what you have written yet.
Regular Member DieselPlower Posted July 17, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted July 17, 2014 Forget it "on accident".
Regular Member ActiasAmy Posted July 17, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted July 17, 2014 I'd go with motherredcap, just explain you're embarrassed, the quality of what you'd written so far isn't up to snuff and you are working hard on revising it. Tell her a problem area, ask her for her advice.
Regular Member Daniel Posted July 17, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted July 17, 2014 I hardly ever let anyone read stuff I write. I don't think you need to give her a reason, just say no.
Regular Member Moucho+Moncho Posted July 17, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted July 17, 2014 I would say "No, actually I'm not letting anyone read it yet."
Regular Member 4prettyfish Posted July 18, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted July 18, 2014 Just tell her the truth. I don't see anything wrong with just saying what you said. "I don't want you to read it." Maybe you can add a "I'm sorry...." It's all in how you say it. Your tone of voice. A friend should understand and not take it personally.
