What is it? I can't really figure out how it works.

Edit: I found something on TPT about it. It supposedly uses electrolysis to create H2, O2, and O3 that, in an attempt to bind with the hydrogen and oxygen in the algaes and other single-celled organisms, destroys the bad things.

I am curious to if it works.

It says it's a reactor, but I have no idea what that means

I have been trying to figure out how this thing is working as the description on the web page is not really clear.

I looked this up and it really doesn't make any sense or describe how it works. The part that concerned me most of all "Not recommended to put hand in tank when operational although working only on weak current. It's ok but not recommended, you might feel small sting if you have cuts or thin sensitive skin". :

It's powerful and smart steriliser for prevention of fish disease inflow irregularly

TWINSTAR kills fish disease or mold spores inflow irregularly from outside or inhibits the growth of them to keep aquarium fish safe. It is designed not to affect important biological balance for preservation of closed ecosystem, so user can manage the aquarium easily and safely, and prevent fish disease.

Cause and pathway of fish disease

Fish disease caused by a combination of 3 factors, such as the environment, immunity, and fish pathogens. If the environment, immunity lowered and pathogens increased, fish disease will occur. Pathogens are everywhere in the air or water, or inside of fish body, but healthy fish have immunity against pathogen so that they can’t get a disease. But if water quality declined or water temperature changed drastically, fish’s immunity will decrease and pathogen will increase, then they will have a higher risk of disease.

Steriliizing power is 2 times, lifespan is 3 times, compared to UV steriliser

TWINSTAR effectively kills fish disease by strong sterilizing factors, so it doesn’t need to run 24 hours like UV sterilizer.

ALC algorithm doesn’t affect aerobic bacteria and help to kill pathogen, so it’s safe. Sterilizing power of UV sterilizer in general aquarium can rapidly drop after 3 months but TWINSTAR keep performance over 12 months.

TWINSTAR was evaluated and tested by National Fisheries Research and Development Institute, the most authoritative institution specialised in marine area.

TWINSTAR was evaluated through application test for ecological environment in partnership with National Fisheries Research and Development Institute. Through 1,200 times test s for killing fish diseases, TWINSTAR was designed for optimum performance and its stable operation in aquarium.

Performance evaluation of sterilization passed through E.coli Test and aquarium fish diseases, such as Saprolegniasis, Columnaris , White clouds disease, Edward disease, Herpes virus.

Capacity (Mode 1):240-350L

Usage:Prevention of fish disease. Enhanced water clarity and lowering/inhibiting floating pathogens. Does not impact filter bacteria or oxidise fertilisers.

Note:
For aquarium size 240-350L
• Only for Freshwater Application.
• No aquarium salt more than 0.5ppt.
• Medication in general are ok.
• Not recommended to put hand in tank when operational although working only on weak current. It's ok but not recommended, you might feel small sting if you have cuts or thin sensitive skin.
• IC has different design according to application as there are different ways to inhibite algae and to prevent diease of fish and invertebrates.
• Kindly note that both of disk and IC is all different for capacity and life span.

Hmm sounds a bit too good to be true...

I agree though Kat, anything that claims to 'prevent disease' grabs my attention too, especially with my recent problems. I'm too sceptical though! And also don't like the idea of having an electric current run through my tank water... :yikes

All pond solutions are really good at not making any sense. Ever tried following their instructions when setting one of their products up? They're virtually impossible to follow

ADA galleries use these a lot for algae prevention. According to what I've read it's a lot of snake oil. People that contact the company wanting to know more are given very vague responses and the aquatic botanists who have bought them can't really figure out what they actually do or how it works.

Oh yes, I have a filter from them... It took me forever to prime it first time round. Thank goodness for youtube!!
